Training in Ottawa

I arrived at the CPC (Canadian Police College), to snow and very cold weather. Of course it was warm in Calgary. I was at the CPC for training for a UN mission to the Republic of South Sudan UNMISS. the training was 2 weeks long and covered topics such as culture, politics, first aid, navigation, UN mandate and a few other things that would assist our contingent once there.

The RCMP is responsible for the training and deployment of officers heading to South Sudan. There were officers from Cape Breton, Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Ontario Provincial Police, Calgary, Vancouver and the RCMP; in total 19 Canadians from Coast to Coast. After two weeks of training we headed out to Africa via Montreal to Amsterdam. From Amsterdam we traveled to Nairobi and then got on another flight to Uganda (Entebbe) where a support base is for UN missions in Africa. after 30 hours of buses, planes, and cars we were tired but happy to finally be in Africa.

Waiting for our ride to the Entebbe UN base. We have 5 days of induction training at Entebbe covering topics such as the history of South Sudan, security, job roles, and UN mandates. The base at Entebbe is a major UN hub for African countries.

Large tents provide storage areas for cargo on its way to African Countries. Here is our contingent moving around the base trying to find a classroom.
